My favorite holiday tradition is listening to my father read How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Christmas Eve. He’s been doing it for almost 40 years now! Thanks for the chance to win such an awesome prize!

  1. I love the Snowfall quilt!
Every year on Christmas Eve we go to the midnight church service then come home for mulled wine and mince pies!

  2. My favorite Christmas tradition is the Christmas stocking. They’re very special at our home where we get some of the funniest, fun, and special gifts. My husband gets very creative!

  3. I suppose Holiday traditions are a little different in the Southern Hemisphere! Would it surprise you to know that Carols by Candlelight, on Christmas Eve is my favourite tradition- especially if the weather is balmy and warm!

  4. My favorite holiday tradition is taking out the Christmas quilts that I’ve made and hanging them or tossing them where they will be used during the season. There is a quilt for each of my grandchildren to inherit. Each quilt will carry with it memories of Christmas at grandma’s house.

  5. My favorite holiday tradition is driving around town and enjoying all the light displays on Christmas Eve. I also follow on Facebook.

  6. We try to keep it simple and loose, not big on struggling for tradition sake. Every year, though, my husband saves the silver bells for my to hang on the tree. One was given to my mother on my birth and the other was given to me when our son was born. That one I don’t mind.

  7. My favorite holiday tradition was making a big bowl of eggnog (homemade with a little rum and bourbon) to sip while trimming the tree. Unfortunately it is now just me and it had fallen by the wayside. But last year my nephew was here to help put up the tree. And I made a batch!!!! Will have to continue, even if it is just me. Just for the memories. And wonderful memories too.

  8. We pick our favorite Christmas card and frame. Each year when we decorate for Christmas we hang all the cards from past years and reminisce.

  9. I love the colors they used in this Christmas book I’m sure I would make alot of things in it. I love the holidays and my tree is up just after Thanksgiving. It takes me 3 days to get it all just right!
I would love to win this! 🙂

  10. Thanks for the great giveaways. The best part of Christmas is the blessings from spending time with friends and family. A highlight is the annual cookie bake – couples, families, grandchildren get together for an evening of making cookies, food and fellowship, then home with dozens of cookies!

  11. My favorite holiday tradition is the family meal. We use plates and silverware and many items that belonged to family members who are no longer with us–my mother, mother-in-law, my grammy, great-grammy, and lots of aunts. The meal is filled with nostalgia and laughter.

  12. My favorite holiday tradition is the supper my husband and I host for my large family. It is so great to have everyone together and share the magic of Christmas. Would love to win this great prize.

  13. My favourite holiday tradition is to go to the beach with my family on Christmas Eve, eat hot chips on the sand and then walk along the beach or in the water if it is really hot. SO relaxing and a great way to start the Christmas period.

  14. My favorite holiday tradition is that we all cook together ~ every person has a dish they make best, even the little ones. It’s a little crazy in the kitchen but we do have lots of fun!
Thanks so much for a lovely giveaway and the chance to win.

  15. My favorites are the cookie baking and gingerbread house decorating. Lots of family bonding time that’s creative.

  16. My favorite tradition is Christmas eve with the extended family and watching all of the little ones open their presents

  17. My favorite Christmas tradition is giving my sister in law unusual/funny gifts that I have accumulated all year (from garage sales, thrift stores etc). Then I wrap them in wrapping paper that is different than all the other paper and sign it from a different character every year (ex: Grinch, Ebenezer Scrooge, etc). We all get a very big laugh out of it (even my sister in law).

  18. My favourite holiday tradition is the bake exchange I’ve been organizing every year. So much fun for the girls to all get together. ❤

  19. I just fell in love with the Snowfall Quilt. I simply admire Amanda Murphy and would be so happy and grateful to win her new book for myself. What a wonderful Christmas in July present along with those Aurifil thread. Like a Quilter’s Dream come true. Thank you for the chance to win. Just love Amanda Murphy and Aurifil.

  28. We have a young family, so we’re in the process of creating new traditions. I do enjoy Dutch traditions that I grew up with – certain songs and foods.

  29. My favorite Christmas tradition is driving around on Christmas Eve and looking at all the lights. I do love the Christmas quilts and Stockings hung on the mantle.

  30. my favorite holiday tradition is putting up the tree on Christmas eve. My children have an ornament for each year given to them by my mom.

  31. AS a child our fave holiday tradition was on Christmas eve we all received new pj’s and then were allowed to open one gift of our choice form under the tree!! I will never forget those days. Now I have tried to start a new tradition with my children and grandchildren. we still do the one gift Christmas eve, but I have also started with a new Christmas ornament for each with their name and date on the back and a music box.

  32. I started a new tradition last Christmas. I made a Christmas quilt, wall hanging and took it to my children’s home for Christmas. 39. Our favorite tradition was the children dressing up in the proper attire as they acted out the Christmas story. One of them read from the Bible. My sister and I both lost our only sons , so these memories of those precious children sustain us and keep hope in our hearts…this is a wonderful giveaway…

  40. My favorite Christmas tradition is the card that we give each other on Christmas. Each member of my immediate family buys a special card for each member of the family every year. I have saved close to all of them. Thank you for this super great giveaway.

  53. My favourite tradition is going to cut down the Christmas tree with my daughter. We go to the same place every year and always have fun picking the tree and cutting it down. Getting it in the car is a bit of a challenge but worth it!

Each year, we spend as much time as possible between Thanksgiving and the third Saturday in December checking out all the Christmas lights displays on homes in Phoenix and putting together a “run” (a progression) of the best of them. And then on the third Saturday in December, we lead 30 – 40 cars from our MINI Cooper club on a Christmas lights run through the entire metro area to view people’s Christmas lights and decor. We make a few scheduled stops, including one halfway stop for refreshments and we end up at a house with over half a million lights where one year we ran into Muhammad Ali and his family, also looking at the lights.

  57. My favorite Christmas tradition is our Christmas party that we have on the Saturday before Christmas Eve. We invite family and friends…all the child under say 12 or so receive a toy and the older ones receive movie passes. It is great fun…we don’t have any little ones at home so it is so exciting to see them open the gifts and play.

  58. For 40 years my favorite tradition has been to celebrate Christmas in the early hours each morning and then to celebrate my son’s birthday in the evening…..thank goodness we aren’t getting up as early these days .:)

  59. My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas morning and Christmas day with my family. The house is full of joy, love, laughter, noise, activity, food, and warmth in the love for Christ and the love for each other.

  60. Favorite holiday tradition is family dinner for 20 on
Christmas Eve, staying up till after Midnight and opening gifts.

  61. I love filling the yarn and burlap stockings I made, beginning with those for our sons in 1978. New ones are added as the family grows. The stockings that I make now are much bigger than the original ones!

And everyone is in period costume. They have the roman soldiers on horses, Angels, camels, donkey, sheep , goats and etc. Their is a live baby jesus. Their is the stable with the 3 wise men. It is just an amazeing event. We go every year and we never grow tired of it.

  65. Sharing Christmas dinner with family and sharing stories with our grandchildren about Christmas past is always enjoyable to me.

  66. Thanks for the fabulous giveaway! One of my favorite holiday traditions is driving around with the kids to see the houses decorated with Christmas lights.

  67. We celebrate Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with my husband’s family. We have certain traditions for each day, homemade ravioli on Christmas Eve and the hosts rotate among the family. My husband and I always host Christmas Day. Our traditional food is ham, stuffed shells and other good food. My daughter does the majority of the baking and we have our sugar cookie day where we decorate all the cookies.

  68. One of my favorite holiday traditions is when my daughters and I light the Chanukah candles. Also when a group of friends and family go out for Indian food on Christmas Day. Nothing like a family of contrasts.

  69. My favorite part of the holidays is getting to visit family we don’t normally see. It a tradition of ours to visit one family member each Christmas, we typically rotate as they live far away.

  70. One of my favorite traditions is decorating the tree with my daughters. They love hearing about how and why we got each ornament.

  71. My favourite tradition is decorating the tree. The kids and now the grandchildren each make a new ornament every year, so it’s a joy to bring these precious items, and memories, into the light.

  72. My family plays the Yankee Swap gift game but we try to find the worst gifts ever and then hide lottery tickets in them – lots of fun!

  73. My favorite Christmas tradition is trimming the tree with my grandsons. Thanks for the giveaway. I love Aurifil thread.

  75. My favorite holiday tradition is opening presents on Christmas Eve, following dinner. Christmas Day is visiting and a luncheon.

  76. Our favorite holiday tradition is to all go together to the local Christmas Tree Farm. It’s the same farm I have gone to since 1959 and is still owned by the same family. I’ve taken my own children there since they were born and now one of them who still lives in the area is taking his own family to that same farm. My husband and I have sadly not gone the past few years because of my health and I have to admit not going there leaves a huge hole in my Christmastime celebrations. That is such a very long history for me to have gone to the same farm for that many years.

  77. On Christmas night we get our coziest PJ’s on, grab our hot chocolates and pile in the car to go to “Lights on the Lake” It’s millions of Christmas light displayed on a 2-3 mile drive in a local park. Santa is there, Christmas music is playing. It’s beautiful and we look forward to it every year!

    The book looks beautiful!

  78. Every Christmas we swap names in my family for gifts. Usually there is a theme involved, so it is fun to see what everyone comes up with for their gift!

  79. My favorite holiday tradition is our family’s white elephant gift exchange. Last year I got a union suit with a button flap in the back.

  80. I love making a lot of my Christmas gifts. That started many years ago and I still love doing it. Thanks for a chance to win this grand book and Aurifil Thread!

  81. OMG, I love that quilt!

My favourite Christmas tradition is wrapping presents with my mom. She does the wrapping paper, and I do the ribbons and bows, and we help each other with fingers when needed, all while listening to Christmas carols. All family members bring us their presents for wrapping (we switch jobs for our own so we still have surprises!). We’ve done it for over 10 years and I look forwards to it every year.

  82. Hrmm Favourite holiday tradition .. probably just spending time with the extended family! We’re spread across Australia and so it doesn’t happen often that we’re all in the same house 😐

  83. My favorite Christmas tradition is our children putting on a Christmas Eve play/music/scripture reading/etc. They started when they were toddlers dressed as Mary, Joseph, and a shepherd. Now, they’re 20-somethings and still perform…although quite a bit more organized now. Love it!

  84. My favourite holiday tradition is hosting Christmas Day for my beautiful friends …….we all live in Australia and many have their families overseas. Its a day filled with joy, laughter and singing. Marie x

  85. One of our favorite traditions is buying each child a new ornament each Christmas. It is fun as we decorate our tree and see the past ornaments and include the new. Makes for a fun tree. Thanks for sharing.

  86. Putting the star that my children made about 35 years ago on the top of the tree. If you are new to our family or a first time guest at our Christmas celebration the honour falls to you. The tree is not complete until the star is hung.

  87. I already follow Aurifil on Facebook. My favourite thread and I am excited to try the new floss and linen threads – hopefully SOON!

  88. My favorite holiday tradition is the Christmas Eve celebration with my 8 siblings and their families. We are all married with two children and some grandchildren; therefore, it is always “a riot” especially when we play the kris kringle game of stealing gifts from one another. We don’t go home until it’s almost 4am Christmas Day. I am not on Facebook; otherwise I would follow Aurifil there.

  89. My favorite holiday traditions are going to the early Christmas Eve service at church and then coming home for dinner. We then read the Christmas story and open gifts. Christmas morning we open Santa gifts after having our traditional breakfast casserole.

  90. My fav holiday tradition is watching movies Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning. Christmas morning is always waffles :-). I spoil myself with syrup, whipping cream, and sliced strawberries. I also love making dinner…it’s very canadian…maple turkey, maple cranberry sauce, and buns…all made from scratch 🙂
    Thank you for the chance!

  91. My favorite holiday tradition is gathering with all of my family the weekend before Christmas. Sometimes we get snowed out from doing this but we still somehow always get together.

  92. Because my husband is an EMS helicopter pilot we have to sometimes get “creative” about the day we actually celebrate Christmas, but we always hang out in our pj’s and have a wonderful brunch after checking our stockings (for gag gifts) and opening presents.
Love the book and of course, Aurifil threads! Thanks for a chance to win!

  93. Trimming the tree has always been my favorite Christmas tradition; it’s so wonderful to relive special memories associated with each ornament as it’s placed on the tree, and equally fun to fin a special new one each year to add to the collection.

  94. We have always opened our presents one at a time so we can “oooh” and “aaaah” over each gift. My son (college age) always thought this was such a terrible idea…until he was visiting another family and experienced the chaos. He is slowly realizing I have my reasons for doing things a certain way.

  95. My favorite tradition is to ride through Tanglewood park were they have the festival of lights each year. It gets our family excited about the season.

  96. We have many holiday traditions and they have changed as our children have grown and left home. One that is still a favorite is our Christmas Day brunch — for however many of us are “in town”, with our breakfast casserole, cinnamon buns, etc.

  97. Our favorite Christmas tradition is being together early Christmas morning, eating sausage cheeseballs, opening gifts and watching the little ones faces. Being together is the best part of the holidays!

  98. Holiday tradition. I think my real question is what Holiday Tradition don’t I like? Basically, if it’s been any sort of tradition since I was a child I try to follow it. I still love Santa coming for EVERYONE under the tree. We have about 7 family holiday parties to go to. My mom has 12 brother’s and sisters so every year we rent a hall for the over 100 folks that come. Everyone makes an ornament and that’s how we decorate the tree when we arrive. At the end of the party, we pick a name and that’s who gets the ornament we made. This past year was the first year without my grandma and I wasn’t sure how many would make the trip to Christmas. All but two cousins (who live out of state) made it! It was wonderful to be able to share memories of my grandma on christmas with everyone. I could write a novel about holiday tradition but I’ll stop here for now 🙂 Thanks for this awesome giveaway! I heart Aurifil!

  99. I think one of my favorite traditions for the holiday season is make a yule logs. However, since every year has a different theme when it comes to the adornments on the logs, we then end up making a new table runner to place the decorated log on. Then we make a matching tree skirt!

  102. What an amazing book. Thanks for sharing and for the very generous giveaway. My favorite holiday tradition is found each year on our Christmas tree. Throughout the year we collect ornaments to remind us of our travels and special times. At Christmas as we decorate the tree we reminisce about each ornament and relive many beautiful memories!

  103. My favourite holiday tradition is reading “The Night Before Christmas” on Christmas Eve to my kids (now 25 & 29 yo!),,and especially now,,,,to my grandson!

  105. One of our favorite family holiday traditions is our decorated cookies. They are spritz and a painted Santa Claus made from a cookie cutter from the early 60s.

  106. My children are grown and gone so what remains is the Midnight Church service. The candles and bells and music are so beautiful.

  107. My favorite holiday tradition is making gifts for family and friends. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great giveaway.

  108. Our favorite holiday tradition is baking up a storm before the holidays and then delivering goodies to all the shut-ins that we know. The elderly neighbors adore getting these holiday treats and it brightens our holiday by blessing someone else:) Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  109. Every Christmas Eve dinner is Swedish Meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy and several other side dishes. Then when dishes are done, we open gifts.

  110. We always get together and pass out the presents and then open them one at a time, oldest to youngest and then back to the oldest until all of the presents are gone. 😀

  111. My favorite holiday tradition is making candies with my daughter. Starting November we spend hours looking at recipes and deciding which old favorites to make and which new ones to try. As she’s reaching her senior year in High School, I’m treasuring these times even more, because I realize that one day she’ll move out and begin traditions of her own with her daughter(s).

  118. I follow on FB and Twitter, too! I’ve already pre-ordered this book so would love the thread collection. Aurifil thread simply does not twist and knot up when hand sewing bindings – an excellent quality!!! mountainquiltworks at gmail dot com

  123. Love this contest! My favorite of our holiday traditions is our Christmas Eve! We start with an assortment of appetizers then my brother-in-law tells a story he has written just for this night then they give everyone something to wear that follows this years theme… a hat, crazy glasses, a mask…. Then we all pile into the cars, which have their own holiday decorations and drive around looking at Christmas lights. Afterwards we have desert fondue and open one of our Christmas gifts!

  124. Our family Christmas tradition here in Australia is trying to keep cool. No hot Xmas dinners for us, just easy relaxing nibbles for all. I try and make all my table decorations by hand.

  125. my favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the house will the quilted and hand made decoration i have made over the years

    1. Lol! I thought it said favorite holiday! My favorite holiday tradition is when we put out our elf on the shelf!

  126. I love Christmas eve going to church, the Christmas pageant, and then for a little cheers before opening that one special gift, then to bed waiting for Santa.

  127. I would love to receive this. One year my hubby gave little red wagons to each of our grown children as a Christmas gift to each family. The grand babies were fastlu arriving. I would like to quilt a wagon design on a pillow top to give those same children this next Christmas. I have not quilted since the 1980’s, and this simple project would jump start me again into quilting. My hubby has now been in Heaven for 4 Christmas’. Memories are what we cherish now!

  128. Favorite tradition is having all my extended family over on boxing day, at least 20 plus wonderful people!

  129. Christmas Eve services that end early Christmas morning. Then a drive home through the areas that have special lighting and luminaries.

  130. Home made cookies and candys are my favorite. We use a cheater recipe now but back when we made fudge the old fashioned way we enjoyed the batches that flopped as much as the good ones. Ever had fudge that didn’t ‘set’ over icecream. ymmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

  149. Our favorite holiday tradition are the Christmas socks. My adult kids have been ready to give up all the other trappings but not their socks. When they were small I made them all a large quilted sock that could hold a colouring book and crayons, along with undies and socks. Now it’s gift cards to get their own undies and socks along with the grooming essentials. Every year they are basicly the same but for them it brings back the excitement of when they were small.

  150. Gathering of family members from near and far to share a meal and exchange gifts is how we celebrate the holiday.

As we have such a large family, 43 immediate family, the brothers and sisters each draw two names of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren to buy gifts for, then all of the brothers and sisters buy gifts for Mom and Dad. With dinner over and the leftovers set aside, we gather in the living room and someone begins pulling packages from under the tree and passing them out. Squeals of joy and thank you and laughter makes the trip home the most awaited holiday of the year.

  155. My favorite Christmas tradition is waking up early on Christmas morning to check our stockings. Then we have a leisurely breakfast on our special breakfast china. Taught to me by my mother and then to my children and now the grandchildren fill the kitchen, make a mess, the cookies sometimes don’t look perfect, they are covered in flour, I have a mess in my hair and let’s not get to the kitchen clean up part. This is my love affair with Christmas. That and then comes Christmas eve when I plate up the cookies for our open house and watch the children smile as I extol many kudos upon them for the beauty of their work. I love it. I am blessed.
If I win, that would be great, but just reliving last Christmas on a warm summer day is so worth the effort to enter.

  163. We make huge boxes of cookies each year for family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. We have our standard recipes which are always a favorite, and we add a few new treats each year so that there are about a dozen or so varieties. Our FedEx driver is the envy of his coworkers, because he always gets a large box. It’s only fair after all, since he has to collect about 12 of the 5 pound boxes to deliver for us around the country. It started the year before my twin sons were born, and they will be 18 next year.
