Sariella’s Butterfly Charm Blocks

Is there any better way to kick off a weekend of creativity than with a brand new pattern? Certainly not! Enter the FREE Butterfly Charm Block pattern by Sariella — the super power design team of Nicole Young of Lillyella and Sarah Thomas of Sariditty.

The Butterfly Charm Block originated as a set of paper-piecing patterns that Nicole created, as shown here and below. Cricket, Gidget, and Pepper burst onto the scene in 2015 in a flurry of loveliness, fully representing Nicole’s signature style.

This new pattern release is the Sariella-ized version of these blocks — in other words, 3 new versions of the original butterflies all done up in Sarah’s signature style. Meet Cleo, Ginger, and Peggy!

We just love that these stunning butterflies can now be paper-pieced OR appliqued. Think of the possibilities — a full quilt, a wall hanging, or maybe even a dress or skirt? Or how about a handbag? Nicole incorporated all 6 blocks into her Sewing Date Traveler Bag, a free pattern from Robert Kaufman (available here). She used her original butterfly charm blocks on one pocket…

and the new applique versions on the other side.

The featured fabrics are True Colors by Tula Pink for Free Spirit Fabrics and the threads are from Sariella’s debut Aurifil thread collection. Perfection!
